Telma Hopkins is an American singer and actress who first achieved fame as a member of ‘Tony Orlando and Dawn’ a 1970s pop group alongside Tony Orlando and Joyce Vincent. The group also had a hit variety program, The Tony Orlando and Dawn Show on CBS from 1974 to 1976. As an actress, Hopkins is known for her roles in television, such as Getting By, Half & Half, Bosom Buddies, Gimme a Break!, Family Matters, Are We There Yet?, and Partners, and in the films Trancers, Trancers II and Trancers III and Trancers IV, The Wood and The Love Guru. Born Telma Louise Hopkins on October 28, 1948 in Louisville, Kentucky, she was raised in Highland Park, Michigan. She has a sister named Teresa. Hopkins started her career as a background singer in Detroit, Michigan. She made her acting debut in 1979 playing Daisy in the ABC miniseries Roots: The Next Generations. She had a son with Donald B. Allen, whom he was married to from 1970 to 1977.
